Where One Might Hear a Pin Drop
Willemina writes about the amazing acoustics that allow the quietest sound made at center stage to be heard by every one of the up to 15,000 spectators, regardless of where they might be sitting. The 4th century BC theatre is still in use today! Willemina was there and she writes that it is fantastic.
Looking at the tiny people in this photo gives a good idea of the theatre's size. I think about how much climbing theatre goers would have to do if they didn't arrive early enough to grab a seat in the lower rows. But, at least if one did have to sit at the top, one would be assured of not missing a word spoken on the stage.
